Great Wolf in Fitchburg is temporarily closed through Aug. 27, according to the park’s website.
Great Lake Services, LLC, doing business as Great Wolf Lodge, announced the coming changes in March, according to the Massachusetts Department of Career Services.
Like many other businesses reducing staff, Great Wolf pointed to the negative effect COVID-19 has had on the economy.
"We have decided to extend the closure of our resort and set a target reopening date of August 28, 2020," Great Wolf Lodge said in a statement. "We have maintained a workforce to ensure continuity of minimum basic operations at the facility, however, with the extended closure of our resort, we also made the very difficult decision to extend temporary furloughs for 701 amount of employees."
In the meantime, Great Wolf has been upgrading its sanitation and cleaning protocols to meet or exceed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
Great Wolf Resorts runs family indoor waterpark resorts throughout the United States. They have resorts in places that include Michigan, Kansas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington, Texas, Colorado, and California.
